Work has started on an extension to the canteen at The King’s School, Ottery St Mary. The extension either side of the existing canteen will offer an additional 129sqm of GIA. In addition, the existing canopy along the western façade will be reconstructed and turned outward to offer a clearer sense of entrance to the building. A timber clad ‘fin’ will protrude from this entrance, encouraging the building to form part of the landscape. A high level band of translucent polycarbonate cladding will allow light into the building and large rooflights positioned over the existing openings in the façade will encourage transmission of light into the main hall.
Designed by Grainge Architects, the extension is being constructed by Nevada Construction under a JCT Minor Works Building Contract and is due for completion in March 2018
